angel death (poem)
that man wouldn't know holy if you spit it on him

you’ll never find god in man,
so why do you offer yourself as a lamb
bare throated, upon an unclean altar?
he never even prays before the slaughter –
delicate skin underneath negligent hands
as he can’t bear to look or to understand
why you hold your breath and do not blink
or why a woman is a dangerous thing
fast forward in real time –
he tears you to pieces starting at the thighs
calls it creation as he hears you die
that man wouldn’t know holy
if you spit it on him.
