bloodsongs (poem)
we all have our hauntings that once looked like a hail mary.
i am vodka drunk by five and
pretending to read the lines on my palms as if i could
trace them back to the right wrong moment.
lately I’ve been singing
bloodsongs as i
rock myself to sleep
and lately i’ve been speaking
to ghosts.
we all have our hauntings
that once looked like a hail mary.
don’t you dare tell me i know
nothing of saving
when you can sing the
words every week’s end
and still be in the wrong place
talking to the wrong kind of god.
