girl-shaped ghost (poem)

there’s someone’s blood in my mouth.

i wear my ghost like a shadow
and she clings to my bones like the cold
trapped in the deepest corners of my mind
looking for any hand to hold

it’s her green eyes i see in reflections
her dirty fingernails that scratch my skin
she’s dug up every skeleton i thought i’d buried
and hides them in my bed when she sneaks in

there’s a gaping hole in my chest
i can feel the winter breeze through it now
there’s someone’s blood in my mouth
but i’m not sure whose or why or how

her tongue is not silky soft
her words are not syrupy sweet
my throat is raw with the remnants of her screams
girl-shaped ghost, have mercy, please

haunted and heartless
and hopeless too
how do i hold onto myself
but get rid of you?
