striker (poem)
i know you only ever see red hands and not the white flag they hold.

i meant every word of what i said
the night you told me i was too mean
for commitment.
and maybe it’s true i burn a rage fire
inside, but i tried to tame it for you.
i practiced my smothering so you
could breathe and only spoke in whispers.
but nothing could have ever been enough –
no amount of water to the flame.
because when you look to me,
i know you only ever see red hands
and not the white flag they hold.
you only ever see enemy lines –
not a woman or a wife.
so if you think i’m too mean for love,
so if you want a fire i’ll set this one
and burn like you’ve never fucking seen.

“so if you want a fire i'll set this one
and burn like you’ve never fucking seen.”
Amazing closing
"i know you only ever see red hands/ and not the white flag they hold." OH. THIS.
