So devastatingly good Morgan! Dido's tale is one of woe but the main story almost always focuses just on Aeneas (I think), so this perspective is most welcome. Also love the actual Virgil references, and the shade you threw at Aeneas: "After all, you left a city aflame once before." 🙂‍↕️

This is feral. I felt angry reading it, in the best way. You don’t let Dido be reduced to tragedy or romance, you let her burn, curse, remember, and reclaim the ending. The way you frame sacrifice versus suicide hit hard; it completely shifts the moral weight of the myth. And the second-person address? Brutal. By the time you get to “pyromaniac,” it felt like the poem had teeth. I didn’t feel like I was reading a retelling—I felt like I was witnessing a reckoning.
